I wanted to learn how to start investing in something other than stocks – so I just spent $24,493 on Pokemon cards.

I love investing, and I’ve been investing a lot of money over the years with apps like Robinhood, WeBull, M1 Finance, Vanguard, etc. with a large focus on dividend passive income as well as real estate. Today I wanted to try investing in something else so I invested $24,493 on Pokemon cards.

In the year 2020 pokemon has probably been one of the best performing asset classes that you could have invested your money in. It all started with this guy, Logan Paul – who is one of the biggest YouTubers around who somewhat recently got into pokemon. As a result of his videos, the hobby has skyrocketed in price especially when he published a video of him bidding on a $200,000 box of pokemon cards which he did a live opening for on his channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQ-f4N2yzTM

Back when Pokemon was released a box like the one Logan opened retailed for around $150 which is a growth of roughly 133233%. That would have been a great investment if you had bought it at the retail price. However, Logan didn’t open his packs, instead – he sold 35 of them for $11,000 a piece and kept one for himself giving him a 385,000 profit, and over a hundred thirty thousand for the national alliance and mental illness foundation. My friend Graham Stephan bought one and got a 1st edition Gyarados (last sold for $13,000 as a PSA 9)

So here is how much money my investment made so far from buying these pokemon packs a few weeks ago. I could have bought an entire booster box which has 36 packs, but that would only give me 12 holographic cards and the cheapest one now is selling for 36k on eBay so I’d say I’ve got a good deal for this stack of 15 (guaranteed holographic cards) – especially If I can pull a Charizard and get it professionally graded as a PSA10. A card like that last sold in October for $16,726. The odds of doing that are 1 in 16. So far I can already sell these packs for a profit because I even though I bought each one for an average of $1,500, they’re already selling for between $2,550 to $4,200 for the same heavy packs with a guaranteed holographic card. This means my original investment cost me $24,493, but is now technically worth between $37,500 to roughly $60,000.

I plan on opening these pokemon packs if I ever reach one million subscribers here on this platform. As soon as I do, I will live stream the event with my parents.

  1. Just watched you on The Iced Coffee Hour with Graham and Jack. Have you lived streamed the opening video yet? If so where can I see it… ty… New BIG fan !!!!!

  2. You hadn't hit 1m subscribers back with this video?!!! I could have sworn you were at a million back the first time I heard Graham talk about you. You make AWESOME VIDEOS! Keep giving me laughter! Also, I love the end. Unlisted Leaf does the swoosh to end and it's so creative!

  3. I’m pretty upset my dad got rid of my toy bin which had a binder full of Pokémon cards. First edition as well. My cousin worked at 7/11 and bought me a booster pack for Christmas and would buy me random packs every now and then. 90s was a great time
