Graham, you're missing one major group who should always have this card, and others that have a similar program; active duty military members. Amex and some other lending institutions completely waive the annual fee with proof of service.

AMEX coupon book is getting annoying. It’s like we are paying just for the AMEX brand in our wallet- especially if you are an expat overseas – most of these credits are useless . I would say the resort credit made it worth it for me this year but 2021 2020 – it was basically highway robbery.
I just cut up my AMEX gold card up. If you want to do business with a company that puts through illegitimate charges on an expired card, refuses legitimate charges, and is unwilling to fix any sort of issue – then this is your card. Worst customer service experience of any financial institution I have every dealt with. One issue with this card and you will be ready to trade in every point you earned to have never done business with AMEX.

Why wouldn’t you just downgrade?

But it doesn't make sense. They're shaking up their client base only to keep the people that will actually utilise the card to its full benefit? That would make them loose money. What would make sense as a business would be to make the card more accessible to the average person that would keep paying the annual fee but doesn't utilise all the benefits of the card.
Im so glad your broke this down, in reality those benefits are for, I have no idea, I do feel like each of those categories will not fit a single person who uses all of those benifits that would benefit. I think very few people use all of those all the time. you saved me a lot of money. like button smashed.

Phone dropped and cracked! Cost to fix: $475.00+ Wow! No phone insurance with carrier. No problem! I purchased my mobile phone and monthly service with my Platinum AMEX. One aspect that many overlook is electronic insurance (AIG). Paid $50.00 and insurance covered the rest.
I JUST got a platinum card and the Uber Credit and entertainment credit alone (I have Sirius XM in my car as it feeds traffic data to the GPS) represent $450 of that fee. With the Clear and Pre Check reimbursement, it takes me over the fee.
A lot of places don't accept American express because they charge too much. That's saying something 🤣

For the Uber credit, I just do food pick up so there is absolutely no delivery or any other fee so I just eat where I was gonna eat any ways

Hey Graham, if the AMEX doesn’t give you a spending limit it doesn’t add to your total available credit. Since you would not be losing anything off your total available would canceling the card really hit your credit that bad? I understand when you cancel a 20k CSP or CSR card because that’s a drop of 20k but this wouldn’t be. Thoughts on this? Am I wrong?

I hate credit card benefits for the same reason I hate airline mile programs, hotel programs and coupons… I have enough things to worry about in life without clouding my brain with keeping track of all those silly things. Simplifying my life (as much as one can these days) is more gratifying than saving a few hundred bucks every once in a while in a flight or a hotel.
I was shocked when I saw that $695 charge. I called to cancel, and instead "downsized" to the business green card, which offers almost every benefit the platinum card does except for those special perks, which I never used in all the years I had that card (well, except once when I got into an airport lounge; I'll admit that was nice).
Idk why USA people got so worked up for the yearly cost increase, here its 1000 usd per year and has been for a long time
As a military man, it was excruciating to watch this guy talking with his hands for 15 mins straight. The Army soldier in me just wants to lop his god damn arms off and scream "DISCIPLINE, DIRTBAG!" in his face till he goes deaf. Oyyyy.

I'm sure this has already been said, or you won't see it, but use the Uber monthly balance for Uber eats pickup, get a free lunch one a month, not counting gas / miles on your car
