So, the first thing I want you to do is head on over to Ubersuggest. You can go to neilpatel.com/ubersuggest. And Uber says is a marketing tool that gives you SEO data and stats. I want you to put in a competitor URL.

And once you put in one of those competitors just click the search button and you’re going to see something that looks like this. Now this is a traffic overview analysis on Ubersuggest, it shows you the domain, how many keywords they rank for on Google, the roughly monthly traffic. It breaks down things like their domain authority. How many backlinks that they have. And this over here is a chart that gives a rough overview of their traffic. This shows you how many keywords that they’re ranking each position.

Now, underneath that you see their top SEO pages, which I’m going to come back to in a bit. And then you see a lot of the keywords that they rank for. So I want you to go back up to their top pages. This is all the popular pages that they’re getting traffic for on Google. So I want you to click view the pages that drive traffic to this domain. This breaks out again, their top pages.

And when you look at this you’ll see a few View All buttons. One to under backlinks, one’s under estimated visits. The one under backlinks shows you all the people that link to that URL. And these are each and every single one of the domains that are linking to that URL, in this case it would be Maz.com/blog/theabsolutebeginnersguidetoGoogleanalytics.

In addition to that, when you click View All under estimated visits, this shows you all the keywords that the article ranks for and the traffic they’re getting. As you can see the rank for a lot of terms related to Google analytics or variations of it, you can keep clicking next, next, next and you’ll see more keywords.

What I want you to do is click on over to that URL. So if you just click on the URL, it opens up in a new tab and you can see the blog post. I want you to go through it, read it, spend time. As you can see this one’s super detailed. Great. It has a lot of screenshots.

And I want you to do that for the top 20. Believe it or not 20, just do it for 20. Trust me. It works because it sorts of by popularity. If you do it for four or five, right, you’re going to get some traffic. You do it for the top 20. It really starts adding up.

Now, when you’re going through this process, ignore home pages.

I know it’s going to take awhile. Sometimes there’s going to be overlap between your competitors. That’s okay, but don’t rewrite the same page multiple times. So if this one is on 17 Great Search Engines to Use Instead of Google.

And the key is to just go more detailed and better than the competition. And for each article, if you want some extra credit look to see who links to them and do outreach. So for example, this one is from Search Engine Journal, 17 Great Search Engines You Can Use Instead of Google.

There’s actually a lot more search engines these days, because all the social networks, and there’s some really cool strategies that you can do to make sure that you can search the web in a safe way to avoid people snooping on your private information.

I’m not saying Google’s snooping, but a lot of people probably don’t like using them because they don’t want Google to have too much data on them. And that’s why I mentioned that in the email.

If you write 200 articles, each article you’re able to get three links. That’s 600 links. That’s a lot, even though each article doesn’t have a lot of links, your total site will, and it’ll start ranking higher.

So if you use this strategy you’ll start writing content that consistently gets traffic, specifically search traffic, which is consistent while with social traffic, you may get a big boost on day one but it typically dies down after.

So you got to keep creating new ways to get more traffic. While with this approach, going after Google, you’ll get consistent traffic.

  1. Thank you, Neil, I got so much love for you, via all the great information you taught me/us today. I am going to have to take that 7-day trail, to hook and learn the SEO from you and your time as well. Keep up the good work daily Neil.

  2. Thanks Neil for all the videos and articles you make, I really got so many infos. Can you please talk about the new google microsite called "Best things for everything" ? And how it can affect affiliate marketers in term of competitiveness ? Thanks

  3. Thank you for this, Neil! Super helpful! I have a question, though: I'm in the midst of compiling all the data (est. visits, top 20 best-ranked pages, and keywords they're ranking for) for my top 10 competitors/industry leaders), and can see ways that I can produce better content on my site, but you mentioned sorting in your video, and that confused me. You referred, I believe, to the fact that Ubersuggest sorts competitors' top traffic-getting pages by popularity (i.e., visits and backlinks), right? Once I have my complete list of 200 best-ranked pages, should I sort or compare between competitors, maybe to see if there are commonalities among their top pages, or should I just consider that list one of 200 blog post/landing page ideas?

  4. Hey Neil, Thank you for this amazing contents. I have a quick question?

I had a blog with 10 blog posts but my domain is expired six months ago. what will happen for SEO prospective if I register this domain again. Contents belong to this domain still existed or I can go for new domain and use these contents again in new domain.

  5. Hey Neil sir,
My webpage is in the 2 page of Google and i am going to run the ad on that particular keyword so after ending the campaign does it impact in my organic ranking???
    Please reply!!

  6. I was hoping you will tell me some very good technique to rank on Google, and this video was all about ubber suggest tool that we already know! Mr. Patel i really like the tool, it has some really good info but i would request you to not play with the words in the mail if you do so satisfy the intent of that word, I came here through your news letter subject "How to Write Blog Posts That Consistently Rank Well on Google" and i really didn't get something new, it didn't satisfied my curiosity because it didn't tell me actually what i was hoping! Don't do that, we know you because you are in quality more, I can't expect you to giving thumbail and headline that draw attention and then video is like everytime the same! I am not criticizing but telling actually what am feeling!

  7. Hi Neil, thanks for the video and a very useful tool! I have a question though….

For a product that is a relatively new phenomenon (<5 yrs), the first page on Google is all 3rd party blogs and not a single brand is listed on there, nor is there a brand´s blog post. When researching brand´s key words, it always says "brandname XXXX" or "brandname YYY". Is this an opportunity for a brand to get listed more easily on page one? And if so, how would you suggest competing with all the 3rd party blogs on there?

  8. Hello, the age of my site is about two and a half month, Just started to show the search query data, and I have found almost 9 query data. But when I search it in google the keywords are not found in that particular position it is showed in the query. Is this normal? It will be great if you respond to my concern. Thank you in advance

  9. Hey Neil Thanks for this great information.
my question is when i'm searching a keyword google shows me TOP sites in SERP but those sites are not using the exact keyword in their title,
but they are ranking for different 3 to 4 keywords with their same "ONE" title which is not matching to exact keywords.
Then i was searching keywords using modifiers like best, cheap, afffordable they all have different search volumes but Google shows me the same results same sites on top which i mentioned above.
can you guide me about that. Thanks

  10. Hi Neil, Great video and I do have a question. Been blogging in my niche for over 10 years, but newer channels consistently rank higher. When I check competitors on Ubersuggest, I found I have similar articles to theirs, but their content is longer. My question is, when I find their articles, do I write a brand new article similar to theirs even though I already have pre-existing articles on my blog? Thanks for all the great advice. Stay safe.

  11. Thank you for this video. After I've looked at my competitions' keywords, am I using those keywords in the writing only? Still new at blogging. Do I post the keywords in my tags? Not sure, how to implement this in my blog posts.

  12. 13,000 views wow like what's with people's priorities these days. Seo for your business website is vital like I don't get why people don't care about it. I'm on page 1 2 and 3 for multiple keywords and I just started 4 months ago during the winter for my seasonal business and I'm already seeing results just from watching this channel and taking action. Thank you Neil for giving us a piece of the knowledge that's needed to succeed.

  13. it is a great approach , but I think there are 2 problems with this: 1) ubersuggest is a great chrome extension, but the website tool is ok at best, and confusing to use. I have a paid subscription, and there is a dashboard, as soon as you click on one of the cards (your business or someone else), you get to one page with a left panel where pretty much anything you click you will have to type your url (or your competitor´s) again and again. Also, the results are still inaccurate, compared to better, more expensive tools in the market. So you will be doing tons of work with kind of inaccurate data. 2) creating content could compete for keywords with your already existing product or service pages that you want to rank for those keywords, so you have to be extremely careful and look at the search intent of the page you are trying to compete with. Many times it may not be new content what you need to create, or there isn´t a clear answer to the problem to avoid cannibalization. And this is not discussed in this video.

  14. Hey, Neil You are the amazing person. I learn lot's of things from you and still learning from your blog and videos. I like your every post you share to me on my email. You are very simple person and you are replying me whenever i asked you question on email or YouTube.
Thank you so much for helping. God bless you.
