How to Prevent Click Fraud On Microsoft/Bing Ads (STOP WASTING $$ NOW!)

Want to prevent click fraud on your Microsoft (Bing) Ads so bots, competitors, and innocent people stop repeatedly clicking on your ads while you pay for it?

I show exactly how to combat that in this video so that you can save some money and not pay for these wasted clicks.

Table of contents:

0:00 – Introduction
2:18 – Step 1
3:13 – Step 2
5:15 – Step 3
8:29 – Step 4
9:50 – Step 5

Studies show that about 50% of all clicks to your ads are coming from bots – is this something you want to be paying for?

Bots have absolutely no prospect of converting, so you’re literally just throwing your money away in bulk.

In addition, there are people of malicious intent and competitors who click on your ads repeatedly on purpose so that your costs go up and ultimately you remove your ads.

There are also completely innocent people who just say your ad as a “bookmark” to get to where they want, and you are thus paying for these people that are already in your system.

Let’s go over the 5-step process to prevent this kind of click fraud from happening in your Microsoft (Bing) Ads account.

Step 1:

You need to build out an “exclusion” landing page – one where you will be taking all these bots, competitors, and people who you don’t want to show your ads to.

I personally use Unbounce to build out this page, but you can really use anything you want. You can follow along with me here to learn how to build out a page completely from scratch yourself:

I also offer you an exclusive Unbounce offer here:

That said, just create the page and keep the URL handy – we’ll need it for the next step.

Step 2:

Now you have to add the Microsoft Ads UET tag to your page so that people who land on this page get added to the Microsoft Ads exclusion list.

So click on “Tools”, then “UET tag”, and then create a new UET tag or use an existing one that you have and just add it in the header section of your page.

Step 3:

After you add the code, you can create this exclusion remarketing list in Microsoft Ads.

Head over to “Audiences” and create a new audience list of people visiting this URL.

Thus, whenever anyone or anything visits this page, they’ll automatically be added to this list.

Let’s go to the next step in this tutorial on how to prevent click fraud in Microsoft (Bing) Ads.

Step 4:

Head over into your campaign that you want to set these exclusion rules for, go into the “audiences” tab, then click on “Create association” and then add this list as an exclusion list so that people in this audience list will NOT be able to see your ads.

Once you do that, we’re ready to go to the final step in this tutorial on how to prevent click fraud in Microsoft (Bing) Ads.

Step 5:

Lastly, you have to set the actual click fraud protection rules.

Rules such as “allow only 2 clicks in 30 minutes”, or “allow only 10 clicks every 5 days”.

The rules you set are totally up to you and your business model.

You can use any such software you want, such as Clickcease, ClickMagick, etc…

You can get your own 14-day ClickMagick trial here:

You also have to make sure that you create your ClickMagick campaigns first before you can set up these click fraud protection rules, so make sure to do that first by following this video:

Once you do that, simply select your project from the Campaigns dropdown, click on “Tools”, and then “Click Shield Rules”.

This is where you can set the rules talked about above.

And that’s it! This is how you prevent click fraud on Microsoft (Bing) Ads and reduce the amount of bot, malicious, or innocent clicks on your ads!

  1. Thank you for the video; it is very useful! When you say that a person or bot will be excluded from clicking again, it means an IP? A device? Or what? Because fraudulent clicks can come from rotating IP's, etc. so maybe the fraudsters could avoid this exclusion by using different IP's, devices, etc. Isn't it? Thank you!

  2. Great video Ivan, I do have a question, is there a way to do the same thing but with Clickmagick tracking links instead of campaigns? I was looking in Clickmagick and I see some filter options within tracking links but no click shield rules. Just wondering I will keep digging around in CM thanks….

  4. Hi Ivan an out of topic question, click bank isnโ€™t paying me because all of my sales are via VISA, i have the required sales but the payments are all the same, what can i do to fix this and get the payment, and is it possibile to purchase the product from my on affiliate link so i have a different payment method on click bank?

  5. Thanks for the video.

I have 2 questions, sir, if I have a product that has 4sizes, which is means I have 4 variations of the feed in the google merchant center.

So now for my shopping campaign group, should I add all variations in the product group? Then how can I judge to take off the product when it spent over my breakeven (I should add 4 sizes variations date and analysis or 1size by 1 size to judge)?

  6. Appreciate for this video thanks ๐Ÿ™‚ but I have one problem in my experience with Microsoft Ads, for example, I receive 2 impressions and 3 clicks from the same IP my Big problem is all the traffic I receive in my opinion is bot traffic… why? Avg time on my landing page is 0-sec en bounce rate 100% I spend a lot of money I decided to stop advertising on this platform is horrible traffic. Is so difficult to get conversion a lot of clicks is from competitors and bots traffic.

  7. Ivan, what about the targeting setting in the process of making association in bing ads? do we choose "bid only" or "target and bid" for the purpose to make an exclusion list. I got an error because i don't fill the targeting setting
