Bounce rate is a critical Google ranking factor. It measures how engaged your blog visitors are. The better your “bounce rate” score, the more likely it is that Google will send traffic to your blog.

WHAT IS “BOUNCE RATE”?

Bounce rate shows how many people leave your blog without seeing any more of your content.

Imagine this: people come to your site to read about “10 Most Amazing Dog Tricks”. As they are reading your site, they click some external links which you’ve put into your article, which link to other websites.

Once your visitors click on those links, they will leave your blog.

To Google, that counts as a lost visitor, and that negatively impacts your “bounce rate”.

On the other hand, Google like to see links in your articles to external websites, because that adds quality to your blog posts, as you’re referencing high quality sources.

So it sounds like a “Catch 22”, doesn’t it?

Well, there is a solution! And that solution is to use a very cool and smart plugin on your blog that will allow you to automatically open all external links in a new browser tab.

That will ensure that if someone clicks an external link on your blog, that external link will open in a new tab, while your blog will still stay opened in the visitor’s browser.

After the visitor finishes reading the external site, there is a high chance they’ll re-engage with your content (because your blog is still opened in their browser).

And just like that, you can get more traffic to your website or blog, by using this simple 5-minute method.

  1. I do not see the need for such a plugin, the feature is already in wordpress when you creating a hoplink in your article, you can select the box that asks if you want it to open in a another tab. When the someone clicks on the link in our article it opens in another tab and the tab with your original article is still there.

  2. Amazing job mate, tbh I always had my external links open in new tab but I have had no clue it lowers bounce rate! Learnt something new, now wondering if you're cool if I share this with my audience as well? Thanks and good luck!

  3. Hi, Greg, you don't actually need additional plugins to open link in new tab. By default, if you are not using any additional builders, mark the text, then add the link, click on the gear icon ( aka settings) and tick a box where it says "open in the new tab". Also bounce rate factor may depend from the content you write: if your copy is very long, then people may be entertained enough (e.g. 2-3000 words post). Yes, even they read all long copy, but haven't clicked on another link of your website this will count as a bounce. In this part, I suggest adding more internal links leading back to your own content, which may help to reduce the stats of a bounce.

  4. Isn't it possible to accomplish the same thing when you create a hyperlink in WordPress to just select the option "open in a new window"? Granted, this will necessitate an additional click, but it will eliminate installing an additional plugin.

  5. Hi Greg – Happy New Year! Excellent video & great tip! I have often tried to be sure to set my links to open in new window or tabs manually… but I have to admit I have been a bit lazy about always being sure to do it. This plugin makes it SO MUCH easier because it does it for you! One thing I did not see you mention in your video – is where can you view your web site's bounce rate, so you can get a "before" picture of what it is now, as well as to monitor it to check for improvement once you have installed this plugin? Thanks again for another helpful video!

  6. That's why it's so important to write clickable titles, headlines and introductions. The most of users spend on websites less than 15 seconds. In this short time you need to convince them to read your content. I'm talking a lot about this on my channel.

  7. First off here's wishing you an awesome New Year and start of a new decade with much success, happiness and prosperity. This is indeed an excellent hack that's simple to implement. Thanks for sharing

  8. Hi Greg, I follow you on a regular basis and I love all your contents. I follow your YouTube channel and not your website as it is easier for me to follow due to time concerns. I like to ask you something. I have bought a domain just now and wish to start a blog. I was confused whether to go build it with blogger or WordPress. However, I finally decided to go with WordPress. I don't want to pay for hosting as of now. So my question is that do could flare provide hosting and sell for free for 1 website? Or I have to go to some other platform for hosting? If so, what is your opinion about 000Webhost free hosting plan? I will be highly grateful if you kindly reply to my question. I am sharing my e-mail with you too, if you would like to mail it to me instead of replying here. My e-mail id is sougatag@yahoo.com. Thanks in advance.
