Hey all!
In this video, I show you how to set up a custom domain with your Leadpages account.
The process is really simple and straightforward and you just need to follow a few steps that Leadpages lays out for you.
But let’s get straight into it.
(1) First, you of course need to buy a domain.
If you already have a domain with a website or content on it, I wouldn’t recommend using that one with Leadpages as well, even if you’ll be using a different subdomain.
This is because things can get messy and you don’t want to accidentally point the nameservers to Leadpages for your main website, and so on.
So the easiest thing to do is to just buy a $2 domain from Namecheap (link above) and use that for your custom domain setup instead.
Once you buy your domain, go to advanced settings for that domain, and I’ll see you in step 2 of this Leadpages video!
(2) Now that you bought your domain, you need to go back into Leadpages and click on the little person icon in the top-right corner of the page, and then select “Domains”.
Here you would add the domain that you want integrated, including the subdomain, such as “blog.yourwebsite.com” or “www.yourwebsite.com”.
Then make sure to select “No” for the question asking if you already have content on this domain.
As mentioned, it’s recommended not to have any existing content on this domain so the page doesn’t break, but rather to just get a new domain for tracking/Leadpages purposes.
Then click on “Next” and get ready for step 3.
(3) Now you just follow the steps that Leadpages outlines for you.
It would identify where you purchased the domain from and give specific instructions for that domain provider.
In our case because we bought the domain from Namecheap, it gave us Namecheap instructions.
Depending on what you set as your domain (with the subdomain or without), the instructions might be a tad bit different, but they are very, very easy to follow regardless so just go to the Advanced Settings of the domain that you purchased in Namecheap and add the records there.
You would need to either add a CNAME record with your subdomain as the hostname and the URL Leadpages provides you as the value, or an A record with @ as the hostname, and an IP address that Leadpages provides you as the value.
But once you do that, you can click on next in Leadpages.
(4) If you only added a subdomain and connected that, you will have the choice to “redirect” and that’s what I was referring to in the previous instructions with the A record.
You can have both records in at once, and if you decide to follow through with the redirect, then whoever types in yourwebsite.com will simply be redirected to www.yourwebsite.com.
(5) Now you simply go to the landing page or site that you created in Leadpages and under publishing options select the domain that you want to be used.
Click on “publish” once you select the domain and the path and you’re done!
