Alexa has a list of the top websites in traffic and I’m using it to draw these conclusions today. When you look at those websites, there are a few things that they have in common.

Well, the first takeaway I have for you is their branding is their biggest asset.

The vast majority of keywords is made of branded keywords. For example, Craigslist is a 22nd most ranked website in the world according to Rank Ranger. It gets more organic search traffic than Apple and Netflix, Walmart and many of the other big brands.

Action at them, capitalize on your brand and try to build a big brand over time because that’ll help you get more search traffic.

Takeaway number two, they’ve established authority already. Because their brand is so big, big companies typically don’t have to work as hard as you do.

So the third takeaway I have for you is, there’s always social component to them, and user generated content machine that allows big websites to have new content being published at scale on a daily basis.

It’s no surprise that big brands have big presence on social media. It’s also no secret that Google is watching social signals carefully, such as followers likes, shares, comments.

Also, brands can dominate through user generated content strategy.

It’s an easy way to scale fast versus you having to pay your own writers, which is super expensive, in the long run.

The fourth takeaway, websites that don’t rely on user generated content, have put content production in the center of their strategy.

The New York Times get an estimate of 59 million organic visitors per month, and they rank for about 45 million organic keywords. This is because they publish around 230 pieces of content a day. Just imagine that, 230. Whereas about a news article or blog post or multimedia pieces. They’re a content production machine.

The fifth takeaway is authority. It’s super important.

As I somewhat mentioned above, these big brands have established authority in their space. Even if the site doesn’t have a huge Content Marketing Strategy, they still hold high authority in Google’s eyes, who found the company who invented serrata does virtually no marketing, when they still rank for over 5000 organic keywords of the content on that is posted on their site.

Now, the next thing you’re probably wondering is, do these big brands actually build links? Well, that leads me to takeaway number six.

They don’t really need to build any links. And here are some reasons on why.

The first reason is newsworthy content.

The second reason is establish brand trust.

So the next question you’re probably wondering is how is user experience in those websites? Well, that leads me to takeaway number seven.

They deliver on what they promise. People aren’t just buying products anymore, They’re buying companies who represent and make these products. They’re buying the brand, they’re buying the experience, right? Nike creates experience.

Brand trust is always a top priority. Just look at Geico, for example. Their motto is 15 minutes can save you 15% or more on car insurance. That line has become a marketing basis around the entire sales strategy for years. They follow through on that promise, which is why they do so well.

And that also leads me to takeaway number eight. When you think about user experience, you also think about amazing load time.

This is a huge factor in Google’s rankings now.

This is the last one. It’s all about personalization and that’s where the web is moving. It’s a huge investment that everyone’s trying to use in their website marketing.

So it’s all about personalization. If they start showing me things for dogs or cats, I probably wouldn’t come out that well because I don’t have any animals.

  1. Finally Neil , Thanq soo much for your amazing content 😊
Today I completed to watch your whole youtube videos , your all playlists and i have made notes of your all youtube videos something around more than 1000 pages in just 5 days . Neil Now i understood everything about Seo , social media , content , google everything but i hate to write someting , but i like to do something visuqos , videos , post, socil media , in digital marketing there anr many parts like soacial media , blogging etc… In which section should i start because i putted your all information in my mind and its going to be blast . Now how can i decide my niche to start digital marketing except blogging .

  2. Hey Neil sir, I had edited some existing posts & pages on my site. I tried to add those URL in gsc for inspection. GSC says "Error, Try again later". What should I do next to let google recognize my updated piece of content?? Should I resubmit the sitemap? Or should I just ignore, let google recognize it?

  3. Hi neil, you explain there big websites not making backlinks. You are talking about current popularity. What about the early days when they started the company.. did they created backlinks that time?

  4. Hi Neil, All you videos are very informative. I wanted to ask, how do you record these ? Using a camera or laptop or any device ? How do you do this video along with the voice.
    Thank you.

  5. hey neil!! when i use ubersuggest if i'm looking at a kw that has the search volume lower than 100 / cpc higher than 1$ / and SD below 20, would you still be interested in that kw? or the search volume its too low?

  6. Hi Neil, great vid once again! But number 8 is not true. Pagespeed does not impact ranking. Did watch a videoca while back on this were they tested the exact same site with a terrible load speed and one with a very fast loadspeed. The problem is you cannot make a website superfast without impacting the visuals and other stuff. So basically if you want superfast loading speeds you have to cut content somewhere your users might like (like pictures or infographics). They tested ranking for a few weeks/months and saw no impact low vs fast. Actually the terrible slow site was even better because it was rich of content. I personally think site speed does not matter at all. Because you can have a terrible site load speed but it's all about what the visitor will notice. If you have a 20s load speed does not mean the visitor has to wait 20sec to look at your site. You can load your site in under 1s but in the background ot might take 20. But the way more important factor is what visitors are actually doimg on the page. Sitespeed is useless without a good page. So a slow page with great content will do great. Ofcourse you should make it as fast as possible but never cut good content because it slows the page down. You should not even look at your site speed if it loads in less then a second meanwhile a pagespeed check says it takes 20s. Time on page is way more important.

  7. People pay a lot of attention to the SEO field.
    Why a lot?
Because they ignore other channels that bring a lot of traffic, as well.
SEO brings 26% of all online traffic.
    It's huge.
However, social media channels, especially in Corona's time, referral traffic and direct one can bring a lot of traffic, as well.
More interested in that SEO doesn't work if you have no other types of traffic.
Users analyze your TRUST and AUTHORITY before buying your products.
Google considers the buying mood and setting the parameter E-A-T (Expertise, Authority, Trust) that impacts ranking a lot.
That's why it's essential to use the omnichannel approach.

  8. Hi Neil, really good video.

Does comments on blog posts count as user generated content?

I also don’t have any animals, but a cat keeps appearing on the front side of my gate and when I try to approach it, it flees away.

  9. Your uber suggest tool has come on leaps and bounds mate, i see you have used the layout from kw finder / mangools which is a good thing as its great. but i def think you need to rebrand your software… it just doesnt sit right with Neil Patel as the main heading and URL etc… it takes away from it being a legit stand alone professional tool and makes it way more gimmicky. Even uber suggest doesnt make sense. I would rebrand it as : Uber SEO …. you can still have your face on the videos and the main driving force… but seriously you would get tons more people signing up and paying customers. It would be a massive difference (also you have mentioned the best way for businesses is to build a brand … and then you have done the opposie… (Neil Patel is the brand which sounds really weird)

  10. I like how you wrote a post on YouTube with the link to this video. Smart Strategy Neil. I don’t why you don’t talk about YouTube optimizing strategies? Thanks for the vid 👌
