  1. Ricky is spot on. As he showed a lot of β€œauthority” sites often just put out a high volume of basically not very helpful content that can easily be improved on. Here is a quick story. A while back I wrote a particular article for our website. It was written as a resource for people (including professionals) using our massagers, so it was 100% focused on being helpful and providing all the relevant information they may need. After a while I noticed it was generating a large amount of traffic, and found that with no β€œSEO” Google had ranked it #1 for a large number of searches, above the likes of WebMD, the Mayo Clinic and a host of government and β€œauthority” sites. After that lesson I just concentrate on writing the most helpful, well researched articles as possible and trust Google. If you get an article ranked Google can tell whether it is helpful by the behaviour of searchers, so if people find it to be helpful Google will push it up the rankings, above any β€œauthority” sites. If you do it enough times Google will trust you and start you a lot higher.

  2. I've been following you guys for almost a year now. What is your take on how the new Google search AI will impact traffic for affiliate websites and small blogs? Honestly, It looks pretty dire since the AI can just deliver on-point answers to most users' queries. Is it even worth investing time and money in building new websites?

  3. Hey Ricky, just watched google io. Now their ai chatbot answer appears at the top of the page and covers more than 30% of the page. Publishers and bloggers are screwed. It's like they always rank number 1 for the search term.

  4. I hear you, and great message, I like it in principle.

Here's my problem. The original well made content by passionate small creators won't rank anywhere near webmd, and so its almost as though Google favours the garbage generic content more. Trust in Google has been fading, and I've noticed a lot of people search for their answers on reddit now, which shows 2 things. Firstly, Google isn't giving people the satisfactory answers their after, and 2, people prefer real experiences from actual people, as you mention in this video.

This is just my personal experience of course, but it's tough to dedicate all that time and effort to make great content, only for Google to favour the generic garage from big websites.

I find myself struggling to find good quality answers and experiences on Google anymore, which kinda proves the point that Google favours other factors when ranking content.

  5. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE TABLE OF CONTENTS?!
If you have made a video about the TOC I'd love to hear about it, all my FB blogging groups say it slows the site down, but I just LOVE a good Table of Contents… does SEO still love the TOC?

  6. Big brand sites are often outranked by smaller sites for numerous keywords. Google doesn't simply just throw you on page 1 for an article just because you're a big brand site.

  7. Another big advantage we have is that these big corporations hire copywriters to quickly and efficiently pump out low-cost articles they don't care about. If you run your own site, you can develop more expertise on the topics you cover than those copywriters. You can spend longer writing articles. You can make high-cost content by investing your own hours into it. You can infuse it with passion.

The person who created WebMD probably cares quite a lot about it. The people writing the articles on WebMD probably don't. They're just spending two hours on a Tuesday earning some money.

  8. Hello! New subscriber, old lurker here.
I was thinking how to approach this, so this video is actually very good and came at the right time, amazing!
So you're saying it's alright to start as a niche website, achieve authority status in that segment, then expand into other niches? But is it ok to have an article now and then that's not completely and 100% related to the currently targeted niche? Like, assuming the niche is bbq equipment, I have 100 well done ( πŸ˜€ ) articles, siloed and interlinked the sht out of, can I write an article about sunscreen? I mean there is a connection, people grilling stuff are exposed to sun, so…
    Thank you!

  9. Income school needs to hire me… I been craving to work for them since…. ….. Anyway, I learnt a lot and I'll be focusing on quality content to craft my brand.
