Google May 2022 Core Update Shook Things Up (Here's What I'd Do)

Google’s algorithm updates are the bane of most bloggers’ and SEOs’ existence. But they don’t have to be. Core updates especially tend to shake up the SERPs but you can come out on top more often than not by creating the right kind of content. Today I’ll break down the May 2022 Google Core Algorithm Update to help you understand what happened and how you can recover and minimize the impact of future updates.

  1. this update gives back the monopoly to the big portals, taking down the chance of small sites to generate traffic, it was very bad 3 to 4 web stories from the same site appearing while others don't even appear, nobody wins with this except the big ones

  2. My RPM also dropped.. I've been hearing from some YouTubers and bloggers who have experienced this recently due to some businesses pulling back on advertisement due to the economic changes .. by the way I'm not sure how true this is but has anyone else experienced this?

  3. Anyone else’s blog traffic taking a huge hit? I had my best day followed by losing about 80% of my Google traffic almost overnight. Many posts completely removed from the SERP. Hopefully it’s just Google playing favorites with big retailers at the end of the quarter and not the new update.

  4. That's a heck of value info, thank you for elaborating google may update and how to handle it!

I wonder if you have an idea on how to evaluate rankings after current update for 18 websites somehow at once? I work in an agency, handling 18 websites at once is not easy, I wonder if there’s more useful way to handle this amount of research?

    Thanks a lot!!

  5. I was having two sites. Both of them got hit. The content that was ranking at 2-3-4 position has vanished from SERP completely while the articles that were ranking at 1st positions are still there. Do you think I can get those positions back?

  6. The answer increasingly will be: BE ORIGINAL in all aspects of your website: words, images, graphs, tables, and Video, the algo is just looking or ranking originality, so slowly change the old "borrowed" stuff out for all new improved "My stuff".

  7. We are not looking for shortcuts. We are looking for starting capital. 10 years ago making money with blogs was easy as you know it. Now you have the starting capital to spend weeks on an article.

  8. Information-packed video! It's always reassuring listening to listen to people who break things down simply and explain things thoroughly. Core updates are something that shake everyone up! But, the best advice, I guess, is to continue working on improving the quality of your content. Don't get caught in the trap of focusing on rank loss.

  9. I noticed they are doing more semantic when it doesn't apply. My last name is a comparative adjective like Smarter and for my name John Smarter (not my name) they are now showing searches like John More Intelligent and even John Clever. Google is kind of overdoing the synonyms, at least for my full name searches which I'm getting absolutely almost half the front page and images now filled with the wrong info. Their ai is not that smart, but they are trying really hard and have too much confidence in the ai… my guess is that they will do a correction in about 3-6 months because the search quality is much worse with incorrect semantic (synonyms) matching. Because my name is an adjective Google forgot in this last update that it's a name… my branding kind of went out the window… I was ranking for every 10 positions with my content for my name, now it's just about 50-70%… which is just annoying. Google is just a bunch of people and they make mistakes… They claim intelligent ai but that's all total baloney.

  10. Im a project 24 student. i started my website in october last year. After the May update, my website almost doubled in traffic. it feels like my site got promoted. ive been so motivated to keep pushing out good content since.

Just like Project 24 teaches, it looks like what's working is good informational content.

  11. First of all thanks for your great work, i really learned a lot from your videos!

You mentioned it’s better not to use the exact question that google shows.
But isn’t it easier to rank on a search query if you use the exact question from google? 🤔

  12. Great info thanks for this, I had my main site hit hard and others I do the same way not touched at all. Lucky me I guess heh

I checked out content warrior…phew looks a bit tough to order content through. May need to refine that process a bit or add a video explaining what is needed at the start of it. Not really sure what I get for the money but I'm sure you will get there in time.

  13. Income School, I’ve been watching you guys for a while and decided to try out my first blog. I’ve wrote 5 articles in the last 4 days but after seeing this video and these comments, I’m no longer as motivated. Do you have any advice on whether or not I should keep pushing?

  14. My site got destroyed, traffic dropped 87%.
I got an email from google couple weeks before the drop that one of my posts was trending and then traffic went almost to zero.
The site is 4 years old and I could not find anything wrong with it in google search console.

Anyone got any good ideas for email marketing niche site so I don't have to rely on google anymore?

  15. When you write perfectly unique and helpful content, You are being followed by hundreds of other bloggers in the same niche. And I believe once you put your content out in public, your unique content becomes commodity content in no time. And then authority and link building is only a last resort as you said.

Also in some of your videos, you told that we should not be 100% unique since that would make google confused about the accuracy as you will be the only one talking about that concept. I forgot the exact word for that.

Can you please help me out here?

  16. Yep, I went and made a ton of new content to win back my best keywords and other ones that did well for me.

    Lots of others too.

Honestly, I like Google Updates because they always get me to go on a writing spree. 🙂

  17. One of my young sites was growing, growing first quarter of this year and then dropped to 10 visits a day last week. It was beginning to rank for 2000+ words and is currently just over 100. Definitely a bummer. For one of my other sites, traffic has dropped slightly, and it's difficult to tell if it's from the summer lull or the update – I'm just thankful that it hasn't taken a huge hit. Factoring in the season may be a helpful reminder, given the timing of the update, not to panic if your site has slightly dropped in traffic.

  18. Can anyone plz guide us why Google not showing our site on serp when we search our domain name on Google.
All of our pages and blog are indexed and Google crawl it.
Also, our site showing in other search engine like yahoo Bing and other search engine.
I don't know what the reason is.
Just for reference I mentioned my domain name here. Amzfact

  19. All my traffic has recovered from the update after about 20 days. But regardless, people should invest in rental properties, other income sources in my opinion. Gaming blog posts to always win snippets and worrying about losing income from a Google algorithm is too stressful. Wait until Google penalizes sites for not supporting a cause, a month, etc. always wise to have a backup business or income source less reliant on big tech companies

  20. I really liked this video. In fact, the videos you guys put out are always good, but I have to say, that at least for me, the videos you've produced over the last serval months a VERY good. This is the most objective analysis of the MAy Core update. very much appreciated.
