A New Way To Build Links (And Spend Less Time Finding Opportunities)

Building backlinks is a pain. Wouldn’t it be great if there was an easier way to build links? Today I’m going to break down a new way to build links.

How to Get More Backlinks (FAST): https://youtu.be/1Q6minLTBM4

How to Generate 355 Backlinks With 29 Dollars: https://youtu.be/JlxTM_DKILs

Ubersuggest: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/

So the first thing I want you to do is go to neilpatel.com/backlinks, or you can just Google Backlink Checker, Neil Patel, and you’ll see it, and when you go to this page, I want you to put in your own URL. So I’m going to put it in neilpatel.com and it takes me to Ubersuggest. It takes me to the Backlinks report where I can see how many links I have, but then what I want you to do is go to this new report, which is the Backlink Opportunity report.

So I’m going to put in neilpatel.com and I’m going to select domain. It’s already selected. Then I’m going to put it in a few of my competitors, like moz.com, and click the plus button. I’m going to put it, maybe, “Search Engine Land.” Maybe even searchenginejournal.com. Click the plus button. So what this report does, before I click Search, it shows you all the people who link to your competitors and don’t link to you.

The reason this is important is if you go out there and you do a ton of outreach, and let’s say you hit up a ton of websites out there on the web, and you just try to get links.

So now what I want you to do is you take your URL, so I’m going to take mine and I’m going to pop it here. So enter your domain or URL. Change the type from domain to URL so you can see exactly who’s linking to your URL, and then I would do the same for my competition. So then I’m going to go to this Moz one, let me click the Xs here, and I’m going to end up putting URL, so I want to see the Moz URL and who links to them but who doesn’t link to me. I’ll do the same with “Search Engine Journal.” Make sure you select URL.

Again, if a website or multiple websites link to competitor articles that are very similar, like theirs is all about the introduction to SEO or what is SEO and they don’t link to me, this is great.

So if you have multiple players linking to a competitor’s article and it’s very similar to yours, but yours is more in-depth and more updated, you can outreach to them, like I may say, “Hey, John, I noticed you linked to Moz, and “Search Engine Land,” and Wikipedia when it comes to overview on SEO, but you know what? AI in SEO is a really booming topic, and none of them really cover that, but when you go to all the conferences, everyone’s talking about that. Check out this article. It not only breaks down the introduction and the basics of SEO, but it also breaks down how people can leverage SEO AI to use that to increase their rankings over time. I think your readers will love it. Cheers, Neil,” and when you do stuff like that, you’ll get more targeted links, and the overall goal is if you’re emailing out 100 people and you’re getting very specific, very customized is their email, you’re using these strategies, you should aim for 15 plus links.

It’s super, super effective. It’s a great way to increase your rankings. If you have any questions on how you can leverage this tactic or if you’re confused in any way, leave a comment below.

  1. What about to have 2 backlinks for 2 different landing pages in one piece of content? (Content and the 2 pages are relevant)? is that bad?

I have added 2 backlinks for 2 different landing pages in one piece of content from an external website (50 DA), and in my search console I only see 1 backlink for 1 landing page, for the other landing page the search console does not show me that there is a backlink from this website, is that normal?

  2. Neil, the hardest part is always finding how to REACH OUT to these websites. Finding the proper contact… or ANY contact at all. Sometimes they have a general form to fill out but those never get replies. Do you have any tricks for this?

  3. I've reached out to the Neil Patel team 3 times to get pricing for having them do everything for our SEO. Sadly they never actually follow through with what they say they will do. I've had emails and a phone meeting about what I was after and was then promised he (specific sales person) would come back to me with a price. Nope, no follow-up. So I think it's sad you're putting all this great content out there and your team is 100% letting you down. I was pretty excited to get your team to do it for me, hence I reached out 3 times!

  4. Hi Neil! Excellent tip by the way. But can you explain me the difference of doing the backlink search by domain and/or by URL? I really don't see the difference in the results report. Thanks

  5. AWESOME! THANK YOU! I literally wake up from bed and start typing to my notes! for on how to write such a straight forward yet appealing concise email to ask to add our content link to their blog!

  6. If a page is already linking to 2 pages that are relatively similar, why would they need to link to yet another similar page? I understand the point but not for getting a link from that same url but maybe another page on another topic

  7. Hey, Neil thank you for the valuable content you provide
About 2 or 3 months ago i asked you for a link and you said send me the article if it adds value to my audience and I wrote a very long article and sent you the link but you did not check yet.

  8. Many times it feels that blogging is dead because so, many experts says that the blogging is dead.
What's your opinion neil . I have been following you since so, long and your advice matter to me most.
